Compare the meaning behind each field.
Compare party roles, quantities, units, references and document versions. Understand a difference before changing a field to make it match.
Check document preparation
Parties and roles
The seller on an invoice and shipper on a transport record may have different roles. Compare names together with roles, addresses and transaction context. Do not replace a name merely to make every document look uniform.
Useful question: which party does this field represent, and which source record supports it?

Values and units
Synthetic example: 12 cartons containing 10 units each describe 120 goods units. The numbers 12 and 120 do not necessarily conflict. Gross weight includes packaging while net weight has a different scope; confirm the definitions used in the source records.
Useful question: which unit, scope and measurement method produced this value?

Versions and references
A file’s download date is not necessarily its issue date. Compare the issuer’s reference, version identifier if available and changed details. An older record may help explain the history, but it should be clearly marked as superseded.
Useful question: which version is being reviewed now, and who has received the correction?

Start with a clear question.
